The Right to Life

Life begins at conception, and abortion is wrong. I oppose abortion and am particularly dismayed by the practice of so-called "partial-birth" abortion.

2nd Amendment Rights

The Second Amendment reads: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. " Note the use of the term "right." Our right to bear arms is not a privilege. It is a RIGHT. Privileges, like driving a car, can be licensed and regulated by the government. But RIGHTS can't be.

I own firearms and keep proficient so that I can safely use them, and I absolutely oppose any efforts to diminish our rights under the Second Amendment.

Marriage

I believe in traditional marriage and that marriage is a divinely-inspired institution. We must protect its sanctity by defending against efforts to "redefine" it. Marriage should be between one man and one woman.

Healthcare

I am absolutely opposed to government-run healthcare, and will oppose all efforts to put such a system in place for Americans.

Some questions we might pose to our representatives:

  1. When Prime Minister Berlusconi of Italy (their head of state) needed heart surgery, he did not go to an Italian hospital. Nor did he go anywhere else in Europe. He came to the Cleveland Institute in the USA. If the European and Canadian healthcare models are so strong, why did he not seek treatment in Europe or Canada?
  2. Likewise, why did Minister of Parliament Belinda Stronach of Canada have her surgery done in California?
  3. Why is it that one in three Canadian physicians refers a Canadian patient to the United States for care each year?

And the truth is, we have no idea of how much "ObamaCare" will cost. The $1 trillion figure for the next ten years is not supported by any basis in fact, and the truth is, our government is horrible at estimating the cost of government health care programs. For example:

  • In 1965, we estimated the cost of Medicare Part A would be $9 billion by 1990. When 1990 arrived, that $9 billion estimate turned into a cost of $67 billion. We missed the estimate by a whopping 700%!
  • In 1987, we estimated the Medicaid Hospital Subsidy program would, by 1992 (a short five years later) be $100 million. When 1992 arrived, the cost rose from its estimated $100 million to $11 BILLION. We missed it by a factor of 1100%!

So when someone tells you we can implement a comprehensive national healthcare program for "only" $1 trillion over ten years, be suspicious.
